From stilettos to steel toes

My life have changed from a corporate world to the dirty world of gas…

Last day of 2008

I’m a big fan of reminiscing, but to me doing the review of the entire year is just another cliche.  I’ve just got back from holiday, spent 10 days in KL and then on a 4 days road trip to KK from here.  I guess I’m just too tired that now I’m down with fever.  KK road trip was a blast!  Borneo can be really underrated by the Peninsular folks (including yours truly that is) – will talk about it in another entry when I feel like writing one.

Anyways, lots of things had happened in 2008.  It started off with a trip to Europe after so long (for work obviously, can’t afford to go on my own).  From getting married to expecting another family member…  Unfortunately, the significant other isn’t here with me to celebrate the new Gregorian year, he’s off on a business trip.  But since I’m entertaining myself with Mariah Carey’s concert on TV.  Here’s something for him…

Vision of Love

Treated me kind
Sweet destiny
Carried me through desperation
To the one that was waiting for me
It took so long
Still I believed
Somehow the one that I needed
Would find me eventually

I had a vision of love
And it was all that you’ve given to me

Prayed through the nights
Felt so alone
Suffered from alienation
Carried the weight on my own
Had to be strong

So I believed
And now I know I’ve succeeded
In finding the place I conceived

I had a vision of love
And it was all that you’ve given to me
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you’ve given me

I’ve realized a dream
And I visualized
The love that came to be
Feel so alive
I’m so thankful that I’ve received
The answer that heaven has sent down to me

You treated me kind
Sweet destiny
And I’ll be eternally grateful
Holding you so close to me
Prayed through the nights
So faithfully
Knowing the one that I needed
Would find me eventually

I had a vision of love
And it was all that you’ve given to me
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you turned out to be

By invitation only…

I don’t really like the fact that some people have blog(s) and the blog(s) is by invitation only.  It really beats the purpose of having a blog in the first place.  If you really want to make it exclusive to some close friends, then isn’t it pathetic that your close friends have to dig your blog to know what’s new with you?  Why don’t you start calling or texting or chatting for a change then?

Again, some people argue that we want to prevent a certain people like the ones we do not like in the office from peeking in our blog… Fair enough, but I still don’t buy the idea.  Blog is meant to be free for all, if you don’t like people peeking into your life, then don’t advertise it in the first place.  It’s really annoying that you’ve been advertising your blog like there is no tomorrow, then the next day your new advertisement says “my blog is only open for the invitees only.”  Blarghhhhh….

And yea, blog do make some people famous, but not all.  Having a blog is not a ticket to fame.

Pretty in make-up…

I think half of Hollywood is pretty because of the thick make-up on their face.  And certainly anyone can be pretty with the right make-up on her.  But “rambut karat” is still a big turn off for me, it doesn’t matter if it’s a male or female.  Plis lah ko dah melayu tu, ngaku jelah rambut itam!

I ran into Che’ Siti today.  He/She is so big, fat and disgusting… I shouted and ran away.  My maid told me she had once trapped on Che’ Siti in the toilet bowl, she couldn’t flush it down so she had to bang its head before getting it out.  Funny!! But DISGUSTING!!

I rode on the LRT after almost a year not doing so.  LRT is a place where you can see how weird people in KL dress.  One time, this one girl was wearing a winter coat (like the one in S Club 7’s video Never Had A Dream Come True), complete with boots and short skirt… I was wondering if she’s sweating inside… Hmm…

Today I saw two guys with spikey hair-dos, stylo jeans with metal strings all over and complete with bling-bling jacket (ala-Kanye West mmmkay).  While walking out of the LRT when we arrive at KLCC, I heard one of the guy said “Isyk, panaslah…”

Guys and gals, we live in KL for goodness’ sake.

Che’ Siti

I’ve been back in my hometown for the past few days.  Duan is on business trip, and since I have a bunch of annual leave to waste, I took 2 weeks off.  The last minute decision cost my pocket, but the break is what I really need.  Sitting down having nothing to do is bliss!  I don’t remember when was the last time I had this opportunity – maybe it was after I resigned from my previous job.

Anyway, it is weird to see that the number of Che’ Sitis attacking our house kept on increasing.  The fruit basket is their favorite spot – if it’s not empty, half of a fruit will be gone when the morning come… Two nights ago, I was chatting away when I saw one big head peeping out of the corner of the stairs.  Last night, I saw the tail on the second floor right by the stairs… Sometimes, I can’t sleep at night with the sounds of their motion in the ceiling!!! Where do they come from???

The good news was, my maid managed to catch one big fat Che’ Siti in the trap this morning.  Apparently it tried to escape and spill some of the “glue” on the floor.  I know the peek-a-boo Che’ Siti is still roaming around somewhere… Just you wait, we will catch you!!!

Kita, kita dan kita

Kita is the most confusing word in Malay.  In the Peninsular, kita means we (inclusive of you), in Johor, kita means I and in Borneo, kita means you.  When I first came to Brunei, the cabin crew wanted to give the arrival card and so he asked “Kita orang Brunei?”   I was like “Why is he asking me that question.” So I answered “No?”

Malaysia government will come up with a “formula” on how the retail fuel price is going to work in Malaysia.  And they were thinking of having a floor price.  I seriously don’t understand why!  I thought when the fuel price is low enough, it is the time we, the poor citizens can enjoy the cheap fuel… Oh wait, the government wants to “gain” something out of it, no?  Then what I don’t understand is, the government wasn’t supposed to make profit, so I don’t know why gaining some ringgits over the low price of fuel would matter.

I think the government should let the fuel price float and come up with a ceiling price so that when the price hikes up, then only the government will subsidize.  Otherwise, let us all suffer together… Look at is this way, we will all start hating the fuel retailer rather than the government… LOL!  Then again, what do I know?

In the states, they refer to retail fuel as “gas.”  So what do they call gas then?

One step above the rest…

I try to avoid making entries when I’m not really feeling happy, but it’s really hard not to.  I think engaging with people at work isn’t my best trait.  Really!  I noticed that in the environment that I’m currently working in, more often than not, people like to think that they’ve been doing great stuff.  And when someone comes in and make changes or improvements, it is seen as if he/she is incompetent or not qualified.  But really, I think people are just working differently, and chances are when they are looking at it at a different angle, they are actually making improvements.  Think of it this way, if A lay the foundation for a house, then B come and do something else, which could probably be the main post of the house.  But A wasn’t happy because he/she thinks the foundation is good enough, so why add a main post.  I know it is a bad analogy, but I can’t think of anything better.

Sometimes, when we point something out, if something is lacking, someone will start saying “hey I’ve been doing that.” Well to me, it is a fair point, but how well have you been doing it.  Yes maybe you’re doing it at 20% level, but you’ve been doing it at that level for the past 5 years, isn’t it time to improve?  Really… I don’t understand, how can someone not take criticism seriously, why do you have to be defensive?  And really, if someone is taking over a job or role, he or she will need to learn and of course, he or she will try (or not) to execute as best as possible.  And why do you even criticize that person even before the job is executed?

Really… I’m tired of listening to complaints that no one will ever co-operate with whatever effort that I am doing.  Seriously, I’m just doing my job and if half of the plant do not want to co-operate, then so be it!  At least I will try to make a difference, at the end of the day, I can’t control everyone to co-operate and contribute… There’s only so much effort that I can do.  So why criticize so much when clearly, I have done my best effort to get the most support out of it.

Maybe I’m taking it too personally, but being someone new, I don’t know if this is the kind of “support” that I would like to receive… I am struggling to get support, and I know it, you don’t have to shove it down my throat…
